Chemical Safety Assessment/Chemical Safety Report

Under REACH, Chemical Safety Assessments (CSA) are usually required as part of registration dossiers for substance greater than 10 tonnes per year. The purpose of the Chemical Safety Assessment is to demonstrate Safe Use or Strict Control through the lifecycle of a substance.

A CSA is an iterative process, where hazard and exposure data are compared and refined until management measures can be demonstrated as being sufficiently adequate. The final version of a CSA is documented as a Chemical Safety Report.

The communication requirements are based on any necessary information added to a Safety Data Sheet, such as an Exposure Scenario. As a first step to preparing a CSA, it is appropriate to perform a scoping study. This enables clients to assess the amount of work required to complete the registration dossier. The scoping CSA can enable the identification of further test data points needed to complete a registration dossier:

  • Phys-chem data
  • Toxicological endpoints
  • Ecotoxicological endpoints
  • Environmental fate data
  • Exposure data (modelled and/or measured)

A scoping CSA establishes the basic framework to complete the interpretation of existing data and collection of further data for REACH Rrgistration. The scoping CSA lays the foundation for the final Chemical Safety Report. Our team will complete this process to assist clients in meeting the necessary deadlines and accurately complete the reports to ensure there is no loss in revenue from each substance.
